Published by Veloce at £29.99 in hardback, and written in Peter's easy to follow and unpretentious style, this new book follows a chronological journey through the development of pony cars from the 1960 Valiant onwards. Fascinating design concepts and evolution are incorporated, featuring all sub-series and models. The book boasts 375 mainly colour pictures, including fresh new photos of original vehicles and rarely seen archive pictures and period adverts.

Along with the Ford Mustang, the Plymouth Barracuda was often referred to by the colloquial name "pony car", and although the Mustang went on to outsell the 'Slippery Fish' it was the first incarnation of the Barracuda that was released first on 1 April 1964, beating the Mustang to the dealerships by two clear weeks.

Peter has been writing about American automobiles for over 15 years, during that time writing for the Chrysler Corp Club UK, high street magazines, web-sites, his first books on Dodge performance cars, and the biography of American auto designer, Virgil Exner, also published by Veloce. Peter has owned a succession of American-built cars, including a 1955 Buick, a 1959 DeSoto, 1967 Coronet, a Shelby Charger, Jeep Cherokee and an R/T Neon; he currently owns three Dodge vehicles.

FIAT AND CHRYSLER CREATE ALLIANCE

Italian carmaker Fiat and US giant Chrysler have agreed to create a global strategic alliance.

Under the terms of the deal, Fiat will get a 35% stake in Chrysler. In return, the US firm will get access to Fiat's fuel-efficient vehicle technologies.

This agreement comes on the back of recent troubles carmakers are faced with. Chrysler has received an emergency loan from the US government worth $4bn, while Fiat has said it needed a partner because it was too small to continue on its own.

Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchionne said the deal represented "a key milestone in the rapidly changing landscape of the automotive sector".
Chrysler chairman Bob Nardelli said that the alliance "creates the potential for a powerful, new global competitor".

Chrysler Introduces Advanced Electric-Drive Vehicle Prototype



The Dodge EV development Electric Vehicle is a two-passenger rear-wheel drive sports car that marries high performance with zero exhaust emissions.

The electric-drive system consists of three primary components: a 200 kW (268 horsepower) electric motor, an advanced lithium-ion battery and an integrated power controller.

The 200 kW electric-drive motor generates 650 Nm (480 lb.ft.) of torque. The instant high torque of the electric-drive motor delivers outstanding performance, accelerating the Dodge EV to 60 mph in less than five seconds, with quarter-mile times of 13 seconds. The Dodge EV has a top speed of more than 120 mph.

Working with the latest advanced lithium-ion battery technology, the Dodge EV has a continuous driving range of 150 to 200 miles – more than triple the average daily commute of most consumers. Recharging the vehicle is a simple one-step process: plugging into a standard 110-volt household outlet for eight hours. The recharge time can be cut in half to four hours by using a typical 220-volt household appliance power outlet.

The Dodge EV offers driving enthusiasts a performance sports car that can be driven to work every day – without consuming gasoline or producing tailpipe emissions.

Weymouth-based Onus strikes deal with Chrysler group

Weymouth-based emergency services firm Onus Technologies signed a deal for a special vehicles division with Chrysler (The car giant famous for Dodge and Jeep cars).

Onus makes and distributes lighting equipment for emergency vehicles as well as siren systems, bulbs and power cables.

Onus teamed up with Tomar Electronics in Arizona to develop and test the Maxibar XB to meet demands of emergency services as well as legal requirements about light output and construction quality.

The Maxibar XB LED Lightbar is arguably Onus's most innovative product. It will be launched with the help of a new Dodge Nitro police demonstration vehicle.
